Sally's Cake

Sally walked to her cousin's house. Her cousin offered her broccoli but she only wanted cake. "Why not try this?" Sally's cousin asked, handing Sally a big piece of beautiful green broccoli. "No thanks," said Sally and she went home.

-

At home, Sally's dog was waiting there for her. Sally pretended like her dog made her cake and she took a cake out of the fridge. Before sitting down, she tossed a dog treat in the air and it disappeared!

Together, they ate. Sally's dog chewed very slowly, while Sally used her fork and knife to cut perfect little pieces for herself of cake.

So then, Sally's cousin came over to Sally's house because she wanted to talk about why Sally didn't eat broccoli. "Is this just a vegetable thing?"

"No, I prefer cake," Sally explained.

-

Sally's cousin began champing on carrots. Everytime she would talk, Sally would see pieces of carrot in her mouth. Sally tried not to let the sound bother her while she meticulously cut her cake into careful bite-sized pieces.

"Really though," her cousin wanted to know. (Sally's cousin chomped so loud!) "What about celery? Bananas?"

"No thanks!" Sally stated.

Sally was never going to offer her cousin any cake if she kept trying to make her eat things she didn't want!

"No thanks!" Sally stated.
The point of this story was truly about the way we do things, specifically in regards to food, I suppose. However, the metaphor can be applied to a variety of personalities. Basically, it's supposing the decency we associate with boundaries. Sally is actually very respectful in this story. Her character through and through has everyone's best interests in mind. She wants to share her cake, see? But her cousin is so abrasive about thinking she's better than Sally about her vegetables that Sally feels concern, not for what her cousin eats or not, but whether or not she gets to share with her cousin. That is the impact of this story for me, personally.
